Lok Sabha Elections From April 19 In 7 Phases, Results On June 4
Delhi, Mar 16: The 18th Lok Sabha Election will be held in seven phases. The North East States will vote in the first phase, along with States in South on April 19. Out of 543 parliamentary constituencies in the Lok Sabha, 47 seats are reserved for STs and 84 are reserved for SCs.
The voting for 97 Crore registered voters will be held across the country in 10.5 lakh polling Stations. A total of 1.5 lakh Crore polling officials and security staffs have been deployed for the polls. 55 lakh EVMs and 4 lakh vehicles will be used.
CEC Rajiv Kumar said that festival of democracy will be taken to every nook and conner of the country. All efforts have been made to ensure that election is held in free and fair manner. “We will reach to all location, be in mountainous, covered with snow, or in middle of jungle, so that our voters don’t face any challenge”, Kumar said.
He further said that election will be held in a sustainable manner and election department will ensure waste management in polling booths, minimize use of paper and reduce the carbon footprint. He also informed that technology will be used to the maximum to receive complaints, issuing permission, or for registering grievances.
Informing that over Rs. 3500 Cr were seized in the last election, he said, that ECI has drawn a mechanism to curb money, muscle and misinformation campaign. “Directions has been issued to enforcement agencies to curb wrong practices. We will monitor distribution of freebies, liquor and illicit online cash transfers”, he added.
Banks will report to ECI on daily basis to inform on suspicious transactions, he said.
Kumar said that election will be held in a clean manner.
He also cautioned the political parties not to make personal attack and campaign on issue based ideology. The ECI has cautioned that children should not be used in any form during the campaign.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced the dates for Lok Sabha elections. The election in Meghalaya will be held on April 19 as it falls in the First Phase. The Counting will be held on June 4.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar announced that the Lok Sabha will be held in seven phases. With the announcement of dates the model code of conduct comes into force immediately.
Phase 1: 19th April (102 seats)
Phase 2: 26th April (89 seats)
Phase 3: 7th May (94 seats)
Phase 4: 13th May (96 seats)
Phase 5: 20th May (49 seats)
Phase 6: 25th May (57 seats)
Phase 7: 1st June (57 seats)

Simultaneous election for Lok Sabha and assembly will be held in four States — Sikkim, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh and Andra Pradesh.
