Tura, Aug 10: The quaint little town of Upper Kalaichar in South West Garo Hills district came to life with excitement and high-octane action as the 1st edition of ‘South Western Motocross Championship 2024’ got underway in the outskirts of the town on Friday.
The motor-sporting event has over 60 participants with riders coming from Mizoram, Assam, and other parts of Meghalaya such as Shillong, Jowai, Nongstoin, Resubelpara, Tura, Ampati.
The event has been organised by the Ranggira Motor Sports and Adventure Club.
Though the event is officially for three days, from August 8 to 10, Thursday was for registration of participants and scrutiny of their application and gear. The actual racing events kicked off on Friday.
This is a speed event over a natural and few artificially prepared courses.
There are seven categories in total: Beginners class, Scooty class, 2-Stroke class, Novice class, Expert class, Local SouthWest class, and Open class Category.
Friday (Day-1) of the event featured competition across 6 categories: Beginners class, Scooty class, 2-Stroke class, Novice class, Expert class and Local SouthWest class.
The Open class competition will be held on Saturday.
