Tura, Aug 16: The picturesque town of Tura in West Garo Hills came alive over the weekend as the District Administration arranged a specular two-day celebration to commemorate the 77th Independence Day.
Collaborating with Prime Meghalaya, NSDA, MBMA, The Mini Bazaar, Meghalaya Grassroot Music Project, CMYC, and MSRLS, the event unfolded at the vibrant DC Park, becoming a beacon of unity and creativity.
The extravaganza was a fusion of visual arts, crafts, live music, and an array of engaging activities that catered to individuals of all ages. Enthusiastic participants and curious visitors flocked to the event grounds, which had been meticulously adorned in colours that symbolized the spirit of freedom and patriotism.
Children found themselves immersed in the enchanting world of art, as they participated in the “Sit and Paint” sessions, while chess enthusiasts locked horns in intense competitions that tested their strategic acumen. Food connoisseurs were treated to a diverse array of culinary delights, as food and beverage stalls lined the venue.
One of the event’s highlights was the captivating lineup of live musical performances, featuring talented artists registered with the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project. The melodies resonated with the audience, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity as attendees swayed to the beats and rhythms.
For the little ones, a dedicated playground section offered a realm of fun and frolic, ensuring that the celebrations were inclusive and family-friendly. Moreover, the event’s essence was further accentuated by stalls showcasing a multitude of products and art pieces, all curated and presented by local artisans and entrepreneurs who are aligned with either the PRIME Meghalaya or the Mini Bazaar initiative.
The festivities commenced on the afternoon of August 14 and continued to paint smiles on faces until dusk settled at 7 PM on August 15. Throughout the two days, a palpable sense of camaraderie enveloped the event grounds, serving as a reminder of the power of community and the significance of Independence Day in bringing people together.
As the event drew to a close, the echoes of laughter, melodies, and creativity lingered in the air, leaving a lasting impression on both the participants and the town itself.
