Shillong, Nov 14: A unique immersive amalgamation of storytelling and music, the 2023 edition of Shillong Literary Festival, got underway on Tuesday at the Ward’s Lake in Shillong city.

The 3rd edition of the iconic Literary Festival celebrates literature, culture not only of Meghalaya but diverse cultures and traditions and provides citizens an insight into the rich art forms. It also provides Children and Youth engagement with writers, artists, film makers and eminent personalities. The festival also has numerous bookshops.

Launching the event, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh quoted a line from ‘The Second Coming’ by William Butler Yeats, that reads: “the best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity”. Calling all the educated and enlightened people to be part of public discourses on matters of real importance, he urged them to join hands and contribute to the growth of the state.

The inaugural event saw opening act by the Jyoti Sroat Inclusive School, Shillong, an interactive storytelling with Music Nokpante by Mikhail Ch. Marak with Cheangku K Marak & Snam Rangsa session hosted by Jemimah Marak, the Open Mic for City Poets to celebrate the Children’s Day for children below 12 years and below and other activities.

The festival grounds were buzzing with activity, featuring food courts and other attractions.

Attendees can anticipate engaging conversations, enthralling book readings, and book launches.
