Tura, May 28: As many as 205 homes spread across 88 villages in the West Garo Hills district have sustained damage from Cyclone Remal, data from the disaster management authority of the district administration shows.
The most damages appear to have occurred late Monday night and early Tuesday morning when the storm was at its most severe phase as it passed over the Garo Hills region.
More than the rain, it was the powerful high speed winds that brought down electrical posts and uprooted trees in many places, including Tura town.
According to West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani, a population of 931 from 88 villages in the district have experienced damage from the cyclone.
“Damages have occurred to 205 houses damaged, 6 schools, one Anganwadi center and one multi facility center in the district,” informed the deputy commissioner.
No reports of any casualty have been reported from the district, said the deputy commissioner.
“No causalities or injuries reported so far.
The district has received only one case at the Civil hospital of a women from Chokpot,” informed DC Chelani.
A 55 year old woman from Rajaronggat Rongpakgre of Chokpot, Merry Ch Marak, was brought to Tura civil hospital for medical treatment after a electrical post fell on her in the village when the storm began to take effect on Monday.
