Jowai, July 15: A total of three persons have been arrested so far in connection with the brutal murder of four persons in East Jaintia Hills, the bodies of whose were found tied and hacked at Umpleng village.
The bodies of the 4 persons were found on July 6 with their heads severed in a forested area in the outskirts of Umpleng village.
“So far three persons have been arrested (in connection with the four dead bodies recovered in Umpleng area on July 6),” district police chief Giri Prasad said on Monday.
He said that the details of the arrested persons are not being disclosed in the interest of investigation. “Investigation is ongoing to trace and to arrest the other person(s) involved in the case,” the SP assured.
So far, three of the deceased persons have been identified by their family members while one remains unidentified. They include: Ravi Rai (23) of Patha Elam, Nepal; Nazar Kyndait (33) of Dkhiah East Pohshnong, East Jaintia Hills District; and Rajesh Rai (26) from Dharan Sunsari, Koshi Anchal, Nepal.
The criminal case has been registered with the Khliehriat police station.
Police had on July 11 informed that one person had been arrested in connection with the murders.
The only thing revealed in the case so far is that, as per the preliminary investigation, the four murdered victims were suspected to be drug users and small-time peddlers.
