3 men suspected of dacoity lynched by mob in Garo Hills, 1 survives

Tura, Feb 5: Three men suspected of being involved in dacoity cases were lynched by an angry mob of villagers in Rangsakona area of South West Garo Hills resulting in the death of two of the suspects on Sunday night.

Police from Garobadha outpost were alerted to an incident about a group of suspected dacoits being detained by villagers in Jaluagre (Mangsanggittim) village.

When the police team arrived at the village they found three of the men severely assaulted and detained by the mob by the roadside.

The trio were rushed by police to Garobadha primary health centre hospital but during treatment two of the assaulted men succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Balen G. Sangma (30 years) S/O -Late Gurin Ch. Marak, R/O – Skagre, PO – Rangsakona, and Sken D. Shira (30 years)S/O – Shri Jison B. Marak R/O – Skagre, PO – Rangsakona, PS – Ampati, South West Garo Hills.

The lone survivor who is now in hospital has been identified as Betuwel D. Shira (22 years) S/O – Shri Porindro Sangma, R/O – Arenggre, PO – Betasing, PS – Ampati,
South West Garo hills. He has been shifted to Civil Hospital, Tura for further medical
treatment.

From the site of the incident police seized a Maruti 800 car bearing number B/R AS -15-7176 used by the three men, blood stained wood, a mobile handset, a Khukhri dagger, various identity cards, cash worth Rs1700/-, a seal under name of Chairman, United Garo People Forum (UGPF), South Western Zone Ampati HQ Tura, a notebook containing names of the office bearers of United Garo People Forum (UGPF), Ampati Zone, South West Garo Hills.

The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to Ampati Civil Hospital morgue room for Post-Mortem Examination.

Police have filed a Suo-moto case in this connection and investigation is underway.

According to police, two among the trio have criminal antecedents and have been arrested previously in various cases related to Murder, Kidnapping for ransom, Extortion, Arms Act etc in South West Garo Hills District.

Police have informed that if any person has any information about the miscreants involved in this illegal act, they are requested to inform the local Police Station immediately and their identity would be kept secret and a suitable reward shall be given.

Police have also advised the public not to take the law into their hands and refrain from involving in crimes.

Police shall take strict and stern necessary action, warned the authorities.
