Tura, Aug 30: In a major crackdown on drug peddling and curbing the menace of drugs in Garo Hills region, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of West Garo Hills has seized 311 vials of heroin from different parts of the district in the past week alone.
In the past week alone, the ANTF seized 80 vials containing heroin, along with cash and mobile phones, from Tura area, 60 vials of heroin were confiscated from the Phulbari area and another 171 vials from Rongram Area under Tura Police Station, West Garo Hills police said in a press statement issued on Friday.
“The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), West Garo Hills District has been actively carrying out operations against drug trafficking in the district. As part of these efforts, the ANTF, West Garo Hills District has successfully seized significant quantities of contraband and apprehended several drug peddlers from various locations across the district,” A.T. Sangma, the Superintendent of Police of West Garo Hills, said in the press statement.
He said these operations have been instrumental in curbing the illegal drug trade in the region.
“The West Garo Hills District Police remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the general public and will continue to take strong action against those involved in illegal activities. Further, we also urge the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station, Out Post or BH,” he further said.
He also shared phone numbers of police stations, where public can inform about the drug activities or any other crime in the area.
