About Cardiac Arrest
Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops functioning, leading to a loss of blood flow and oxygen to the body. It is often caused by underlying heart conditions or other factors such as drug overdose or severe trauma. Immediate medical intervention, such as CPR and defibrillation, is crucial in increasing the chances of survival for someone experiencing cardiac arrest.
What is CPR, and how does it help during cardiac arrest?
CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is a life-saving technique that involves chest compressions and rescue breaths to manually circulate blood and oxygen throughout the body when the heart has stopped. By providing external chest compressions, CPR helps maintain vital blood flow to the brain and other organs until advanced medical help arrives. It can significantly increase the chances of survival for someone in cardiac arrest.
