Shillong, Nov 16: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday attended the 3rd Shillong Literary Festival being held at the scenic Ward’s Lake in Shillong and encouraged the youngsters to start writing their thoughts and ideas to chart a path towards becoming successful authors in future.
Thursday was the concluding day of the event, which saw huge footfall of literary and art lovers from across the State.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sangma congratulated the organiser for putting up an event, which displayed the literary diversity of the State. He also said that Govt will support and promoting writing in the State.
“We really would like to see our youngsters start getting into writing, take interest into doing research and also take interest into penning down and writing down, jotting down the different ideas and thoughts they have and become successful authors in the future. This is meant to promote and to encourage all of you to do that,” he said.
He also reiterated that the government is coming out with special programme to financially support authors and researchers for works in local languages. “We are coming out with special funds and special programme where we will be promoting and financially supporting different researchers, writers and authors to write books in our local languages. This is being done to promote our local languages and to promote our writers and authors,” he announced.
During the concluding ceremony, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh showcased a different avatar by taking part in storytelling.
The three-day literary festival provided an opportunity for the authors from the State and outside to launch their books and engage in meaningful and insightful interactions with other authors, prominent members of society and audiences.
The event provided an ecosystem for intellectual discourse with a lineup of over 60 literary intellectuals inclusive of over 30 sessions hosting conversations with authors, storytelling, interactive sessions, book launches, open mic performances, and captivating photography exhibitions.
The festival saw the presence of distinguished authors such as Janice Pariat, Rohan Chakravarty, Arghya Sengupta, Ambarish Satwik, Clemen Xavier, Parismita Singh, Naveen Kishore, Ankush Saikia, Jeyamohan, Sam Miller, Sanjoy Mukherjee, Nandini Oberoi, Desmond Kharmawphlang, Bijoya Sawian, Patricia Mukhim, Ian Lyngdoh, and Kyntiewbor War.
