Aizawl, Jan 22: The Excise and Narcotics (END) Department of Mizoram reported a total revenue of Rs 2,37,03,744 for the year 2024, derived from fines, confiscations, and other receipts.
The department also revealed that 48 foreign nationals were arrested for involvement in drug and alcohol smuggling activities during the year.
“A sum of Rs 1,86,89,504 was collected from foreign liquor and spirits, Rs 49,69,240 from fines and confiscations, and Rs 45,000 from other receipts. In 2024, the END seized significant quantities of contraband, including 46.680 kg of heroin, 140.839 kg of methamphetamine, 578.592 kg of ganja, and 615.130 kg of cough syrup/codeine,” an END official stated.
Under the provisions of the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition (MLP) Act of 2019, the department seized 59,694.420 litres of locally made liquor, 3,662.400 litres of BEDC or Myanmar-made liquor, and 29,856 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in 2024. The IMFL seizures included 13,578 bottles of 750 ml, 6,101 bottles of 375 ml, and 11,605 bottles of 180 ml.
