Tura, Sept 13: The first semi-final match of the 4th Inter Mahari Men’s Football Tournament saw a nail-biting thriller between the Bolwari Mahari team and Chisim Mahari team, where the Bolwari team won 6-5 in penalties.

The entire match climaxed into a sudden death penalty shootout, as both teams equalised each other with their respective solitary goals during the allotted time and also mirrored each other in the penalties at the PA Sangma Stadium in Dakopgre, Tura.

Straight from the first whistle, Chisim Mahari maintained a dominating ball possession, not letting a single opportunity pass by, but luck eluded both teams and the first half ended with a 0-0 impasse.

After a goalless first half, the match took off with high energy as Bolwari Mahari took control of the ball, launching attacks at their opponent. However, Chisim Mahari were able to break the deadlock in the 40th minute with a beautiful goal by Chusam Ch Sangma. The Chisim fans went berserk with their cheers as the game tilted in their favour.

But astonishingly, Bolwari Mahari managed to equalise the scoreline with an amazing last minute goal from outside the 18-yard box by Galseng B Marak in the 60th minute. The entire stadium came to an uproar as the match ended in a 1-1 draw, culminating in a penalty shootout.

In the penalty shootout, both teams mirrored each other in the usual six strikes climaxing into a sudden death. Each team took nine strikes in total where the Bolwari team won the match by 6-5.

With this victory the Bolwari Mahari team have stapled their name as the first finalist of the 4th Inter Mahari Men’s Football Tournament. Chusrang Ch Sangma of Bolwari Mahari received the only cautionary yellow card of the game in the 41st minute for a foul.

The second semi final match is scheduled on Monday between Agitok Mahari and Do.po Mahari at the P. A. Sangma Stadium in Dakopgre.
