Tura, Oct 17: Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) started its golden jubilee celebrations with a three-day extravaganza on October 17, 18 and 19.

To mark  50 years of MBoSE, the Director (Administration), Tura announced several programmes including PPT presentation on ‘Milestones of MBOSE’ release of souvenir, quiz, and other cultural performaces by the students from various schools.

The three-day celebrations started with a bike rally from the MBOSE campus at around 9:15 a.m. by NH51, MBOSE staff, and schools, ending at Green Haven, New Tura, on the opening day.

The rally started at MBoSE HQ in New Tura and passed through Araimile – Jerusalem – Alotgre stadium – Chandmari – Hawakhana – Nazing Bazar – PA Sangma stadium and culminated at Green Haven at Walbakgre.

In the rally, school students from different schools also participated. They accompanied the rally in buses behind the bikers.

On the second day of the celebration, that is on October 18, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar will be attending the celebrations as the  chief guest and formally launch the celebratiosn in the presence of Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma as the guest of honour, Commissioner & Secretary, Education Department Pravin Bakshi as the special guest; and the afternoon session will include academic discourse by different distinguished speakers on ‘The Spread of Education in Meghalaya’.

On the third day, that will be the last day of celebration on October 19, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma will grace the occasion as chief guest, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma as guest of honour and the chief secretary to the Government of Meghalaya D P Wahlang will be the special guest.

Speaking to Hub News, Cavouright P Marak, IFS (Retd.), Executive chairman of MBoSE, said “The board had a humble beginning and it has surpassed many challenges to reach 60 years. In terms of manpower and infrastructures, the board has grown tremendously. From 3000 students who appeared in 1973 for class X exam, we are now handling around 1 lakh students in class X exams and 12 exam.”

MBoSE Director (Administration), Rikse R Marak, said “I am very overwhelmed that we started this celebration through a bike rally. It’s very symbolical. It’s a historic moment and I am very happy to be a part of it.”

She added that there will be MBoSE model, live museum, SHG stalls to show local products so that anyone who visits can get a feel of Garo hills and Meghalaya.

In addition, there will also be local food stalls as well as foods from other states.
