Shillong, Oct 4: An IED bomb was detected at the main gate of the National People’s Party (NPP) Office at Lachumiere in Shillong on Monday afternoon.Security officals said the bomb weighed around 5 kg.A suspicious bag was first noticed by the shopkeepers near the area, which was subsequently reported to the Police Department.

The Bomb Squad of police department swift reached the area and cordoned it off. The bomb was defused before anything mishap could happen.Govt Offices and shops in and around the area have been  closed temporarily and residents have been  asked to clear the area.Meanwhile, procscribed group HNLC has claimed reponsibility for the bomb. General secretary of the outfit, Sainkupar Nongtraw, made the announcement on social media.
