Tura, Jan 18: The East Khasi Hills (EKH) Girls’ Football team secured a commanding 5-0 win against South West Khasi Hills (SWKH) Girls’ team in the semi-final of the U18 Football in the 5th Meghalaya Games at the P.A. Sangma in Tura on Thursday.
The match, dominated by East Khasi Hills right from the start, saw the opening goal from midfielder Melaribha in just 9 minutes. With continuous ball possession, the team added a second goal in the 28th minute from I. Khongsit, maintaining a 2-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, East Khasi Hills maintained control of the game and in the 54th minute, striker I Khongthaw scored the third goal. Despite South West Khasi Hills having their fair share of chances, they could not keep up with the superior pace of East Khasi Hills.
Khongthaw added another goal to her name in the 61st minute from a tap-in. But not long, Khongthaw secured her hattrick in the 68th minute, just two minutes before the end of the match.
With this victory in the second semifinal match, East Khasi Hills is set to face Ri Bhoi in the final for gold medal cum championship of the division.
On the other hand, Eastern West Khasi Hills will compete against South West Khasi Hills for the Bronze Medal of the Meghalaya Games 2024 on Friday.
