667 jail inmates in Meghalaya vaccinated against Covid-19

Shillong, June 14: As vaccination against the novel corona virus is on full swing in the State, the government has made sure that it does not forget about its inmates lodged in different jails across the state.

In order to root out the virus from the society at every level and across all sections, Meghalaya Police is ensuring that the jail inmates are provided vaccine shots, and so far 667 eligible inmates in different prisons in the state have been given the jab.

Inspector General of Prison, M. Kharkrang on Monday informed that 367 out of 398 inmates in Shillong prison have been vaccinated against COVID-19, 180 of 188 inmates in Tura prison and 120 of 182 inmates in Jowai prison as on date.

None of them has reported any adverse events.

He said the vaccination drive will start at Williamnagar prison on Tuesday while the process is yet to started for Nongpoh prison.
