6th Edition of North East 3×3 Challenge on March 19-20

Shillong, Mar 18: The Touchline Northeast will be conducting the 6th edition of The North East 3×3 Challenge 2022, in collaboration with Meghalaya Aids Control Society (MACS) and powered by Shillong Labet Basketball Club, on March 19-20, 2022, at St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School.

This tournament is the first official FIBA 3X3 endorsed basketball tournament in the North East, hosting over 50 men and women 3×3 teams from the across the state of Meghalaya along with invited teams from neighbouring states.

The tournament is also approved by the Basketball Federation of India.

Assam, Manipur and Mizoram will all have men’s teams whereas Nagaland will have one all men’s team and it will also be the only state fielding two women’s teams.

3X3 is a new format of basketball which has been included in the Tokyo Olympics.

Touchline Northeast along with the Meghalaya Basketball Association, has stated that this format has tremendous potential for the players to reach the next level. Iairy Sangma is living proof of this format’s success. She is a regular participant of the Northeast 3×3 Challenge and recently had a first professional stint in the 3BL playing for the Jaipur Regals.

With the Basketball Federation of India starting the Indian National 3×3 Basketball League on Friday, it will provide a platform for our players to collect ranking points in the FIBA 3X3 platform.

The NE 3×3 is also using this event as a platform and a tool to educate the youth about HIV & AIDS by creating a behavioural change using sports. With the collaborative effort of the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, they have sensitised players, officials prior to the event and will be putting across awareness programs through the two days.
