Jowai, Jan 23: As the 6th edition of the Meghalaya Games entered Day 4 on Wednesday, exciting track and field events took place at the Wahiajer Sports Complex. Medal events were held for long-distance, sprint races and long jump.
Athletes from North Garo Hills shone in both the 100m race and the High Jump in the Men’s category. Henry Yoga A Sangma of North Garo Hills secured the Gold Medal in the 100m race final, clocking an impressive 11.15 seconds.
Meanwhile, Simeon Marak also clinched a Gold Medal after an excellent performance in the High Jump, clearing a height of 1.83 meters. The Gold Medal in the High Jump was shared between Simeon Marak and Terang N Sangma of East Garo Hills, as both achieved the same height.
In the 100m race (Women), Himonki Khaii of West Jaiñtia Hills secured Gold after clocking a time of 13.67 seconds. In the High Jump (Women), Rinalis Ingti of Ri Bhoi won the Gold Medal with a jump of 1.51 meters.
In the long-distance race events, athletes from East Khasi Hills excelled, winning Gold in the 5000-meter races in both the Men’s and Women’s categories. Daniel Lyngdoh Wahlang and Gloryfy Kurbah secured their Gold Medals with times of 16:03.42 and 20:16.21, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the 800-meter race, Eleven Dkhar of East Jaiñtia Hills secured Gold in the Men’s category, while Bethlyne Grace Makri of East Khasi Hills claimed Gold in the Women’s category.
