Jowai, Jan 24: The volleyball tournament of the 6th Meghalaya Games concluded with East Garo Hills and West Garo Hills showcasing their dominance and securing the Gold Medals in both the Women’s and Men’s categories.
In the Women’s final, East Garo Hills emerged triumphant, defeating East Jaiñtia Hills in an exciting match to clinch the gold medal.
Meanwhile, South West Garo Hills secured the bronze.
The individual accolades in the Women’s category reflected outstanding performances, with Balapynkmen Nongsiej from South West Khasi Hills named Best Defender, Haphi Wankhar from East Khasi Hills awarded Best Setter, S.R. Marak from East Garo Hills recognized as Best Spiker, and T.D. Sangma from East Garo Hills honored as the Best Athlete.
The Men’s final saw defending champions West Garo Hills retain their Gold Medal with a decisive victory over North Garo Hills.
However, South Garo Hills fought hard to claim the bronze medal.
Among the standout performers, Maitphang Sniatang from South West Khasi Hills earned the title of Best Defender, while Barvado R. Marak from West Garo Hills was named Best Setter. Rakrim Areng from North Garo Hills was celebrated as the Best Spiker, and Walkam Sangma from West Khasi Hills took home the Best Athlete award.
