Guwahati, Jan 18: A 75-year-old Catholic Church was allegedly set ablaze by unidentified miscreants on the night of January 15 in Ambagaon, Udalguri district, Assam. The incident, which occurred around 10:30 PM, has triggered widespread tension in the area.
Udalguri police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits behind the attack. Local residents expressed outrage, calling for swift justice. “We are living in a secular country, and such acts of violence are unacceptable. The authorities must ensure a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice,” said a resident.
Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro condemned the attack, directing the district administration to conduct a detailed probe and take stringent action against those responsible. BTR executive members Ranjit Basumatary and Dhanjay Basumatary visited the site to assess the situation and appealed for peace and communal harmony.
The incident has caused palpable tension among the local communities. However, people from across various religions and communities have united to condemn the act, demanding the immediate arrest of those attempting to incite communal discord.
