Imphal, Nov 23: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has deployed 90 additional companies of Central forces to Manipur to address security concerns, Chief Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh announced on Friday.
Since the ethnic violence erupted in May last year, security forces have recovered 3,000 arms looted by mobs and other groups, Singh said.
“The additional forces will be stationed in vulnerable, sensitive, fringe, and mixed-population areas. Many have already arrived, and more are on the way,” Singh stated.
He assured that the primary focus is to protect lives and properties, while operations to recover remaining stolen arms and ammunition continue.
During a security review meeting with senior officials from the Army, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP, and Manipur Police, the current situation was assessed, and several standard operating procedures (SOPs) were finalized.
Singh also confirmed that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has begun investigations into the cases handed over to it.
