Kohima, April 13: Imagine turning on a tap and watching clean water flow—something millions take for granted. But for the people of Changpang in Wokha district of Nagaland, that simple act is pure magic.
The villagers were so happy that it was announced on a public address system.
Changpang village in Nagaland’s Wokha district has received its first-ever tap water connection—ushering in a new chapter for a community that has long grappled with water scarcity.
Taking to social media platform X, BJP national spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon called the occasion “a moment of history and joy,” highlighting it as a monumental milestone “after centuries.”

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Har Ghar Jal mission and the dedicated efforts of Nagaland’s Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and minister Jacob Zhimomi for making this a reality.
For years, residents of Changpang village in the Wokha district have faced the harsh realities of a deepening water crisis. Etsuchuka Spring, the primary water source for many in the district, has seen alarming depletion, disrupting regular supply and leaving communities to contend with receding water levels and parched landscapes.

“This is not just about infrastructure,” said PHED Wokha Executive Engineer Imnazulu Ao. “It’s about restoring dignity and meeting a fundamental need for a village that’s been suffering for too long.” However, Ao cautioned that the wider crisis is far from over. With the monsoon still weeks away, the district is bracing for continued—and possibly worsening—water shortages.
