Must read

Guwahati, Mar 15: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has withdrawn its candidate from the Guwahati Lok Sabha seat in Assam. But the party will be contesting from the Dibrugarh and Sonitpur Lok Sabha seats.

AAP has fielded Manoj Dhanowar from Dibrugarh while Rishi Raj has been given the party ticket from Sonitpur. The withdrawal of AAP candidate from Guwahati Lok Sabha seat has come after APCC president Bhupen Borah in his letter urged AAP, CPI, and CPI(M) to join forces for the 2026 state elections, hinting at a potential shift in the political landscape. Aam Aadmi Party withdrew the candidature to avoid division of votes.

AAP press release stated that, “the Aam Aadmi Party became part of the INDIA Alliance with only one objective to defeat the BJP, everything else comes after that. It doesn’t matter whether we get some seats more or less; It is important that the party or candidate who can defeat the BJP gets the ticket.”

“Discussions on seat sharing have been going on in Assam for several months. When the opposition across the country is united, it has been our highest effort to maintain opposition unity in Assam as well. After all our efforts, when there were no results until February, we announced 3 candidates,”, the press release further stated.
