Shillong, April 23: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Meghalaya state unit has expressed profound sorrow and vehement condemnation of the horrifying assault that occurred in South West Garo Hills on April 17, 2024, during the ‘Chenga Benga’ Mela at Gandhipara.
The incident involved an unidentified gang of youths who attacked two tribal minor girls from Aidoba village and two boys accompanying them. The victims were resting a few metres away from the Mela venue when the assailants, donned in black masks, launched a sudden and brutal attack. The boys were left unconscious and incapacitated, after which the girls were assaulted.
In a Press Release, ABVP Meghalaya has pointed out that one of the minor girls is a student from an institution in South West Garo Hills. The other victims are enrolled in various educational institutions. The organization has called for justice for the victims and their families, urging society to voice its opposition to such heinous acts to prevent their recurrence.
Tengku M Marak, State Secretary, ABVP Meghalaya calls on the authorities to take immediate and decisive action against the culprits and conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
