Imphal, Nov 15: The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) on Wednesday organised a massive protests rally in Manipur’s Churachandpur demanding fulfilment of its core demands and also raising demand of investigations by CBI or NIA into killings and acts of violence against 22 persons of Kuki-zo tribes.
“It has been over six months and nothing has been done on our demand of separate administration from Manipur government. So, if our voice is not heard just within couple of weeks, we will set up our self-government, whether Centre recognises it or not we will go ahead. As in a state or union territory, we will set up a self-government that will look into all matters in the Kuki-Zo areas, we have to do this since our voice has not been heard,” said Ginza Vualzong, spokesperson of ITLF.
The frontal organisation of the Kuki-Zo tribes in Manipur claimed that if centre does not agree to its demand of a separate administration for the tribal areas of Manipur following months of ethnic unrest, the tribals groups from the Kuki and Zomi community are ready to establish their own ‘self governed separate administration’.
The Kuki-Zomi MLAs of Manipur, including those from ruling BJP, the Kuki-Zomi rebel groups in ceasefire and involved in peace talks and the civil society groups have demanded total separation from Manipur.
The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights, or the KWOHR, also expressed deep concerns over the alleged atrocities by Manipur police commando upon innocent civilians in Manipur’s border town of Moreh.
KWOHR President, Ngaineikim Haokip, said the organization is deeply disturbed by the relentless torture of seven arrested civilians from Moreh by the Meitei police commandos.
