Tura, Aug 2: The internal conflict of A’CHIK Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has been exposed with the organization openly suspending its president Thomas M. Marak over alleged misuse of power. And within a week, it has elected a new president and general secretary.
According to an official press statement released by the organisation on Wednesday (July 31, 2024), an emergency meeting of the executive leaders of the Krima Council has elected Jack A. Sangma, also known as K. A. Sangma, as the new president of the organization. He is a former principal with a Master’s Degree in History. Known for his affiliations with local leaders and as an active social worker, Sangma resigned from his previous role to lead ACHIK.
Happyness R. Marak was elected as the General Secretary. He holds degrees in Philosophy and Political Science, is a trained seminarian and former teacher. Similarly, Panseng R. Marak was elected as vice president and Sengkan A. Sangma as the Assistant General Secretary
However, some of regional units of ACHIK Krima Council have expressed strong opposition to the suspension of the former president, Thomas M. Marak. In a separate press statement, these units have termed the suspension as ‘unjust’ and ‘unexplained’, and called for an immediate explanation for the reasons behind the suspension besides conducting a fair and impartial inquiry into the matter. They also insisted on the reinstatement of Marak as president pending the outcome of this inquiry.
The units opposing the suspension of Thomas M. Marak as president and seeking his reinstatement include: Rajabala, Selsella, Tikrikilla Nidanpur under Tikrikilla, Dadeng, Babadam, Nongal, Baghmara, and Rongmil.
