Tura, May 4: The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) recently organized its 10th awareness program on the demand for a winter capital in Tura. The program was held at Moheskola in South West Khasi Hills district, a strategic and symbolic location close to the inter-district border of Garo Hills and Khasi Hills, drawing a large turnout from villages across the region.
Hundreds of residents gathered in support of the call for a Winter Capital in Tura, signalling growing grassroots momentum behind the movement. Local community leaders opened the program by welcoming the ACHIK team and highlighting the need for balanced regional development in Meghalaya.

Prominent ACHIK leaders and youth representatives addressed the gathering, emphasizing the historical, cultural, and political justification for establishing Tura as a Winter Capital. They argued that such a move would enhance governance, bring administrative parity, and drive socio-economic development in the Garo Hills region.
Participants actively engaged in the event, raising slogans and sharing personal stories that illustrated the challenges faced due to limited administrative infrastructure in the western part of the state. The atmosphere reflected a strong sense of unity, cultural identity, and a shared vision for equitable development.
The program concluded with the adoption of a collective resolution affirming continued community support for the Winter Capital demand.
The organization noted that the growing support at the grassroots level will significantly strengthen the broader movement for equitable development in Meghalaya.
