Tura, July 16: The ACHIK organisation has embarked on an unwavering hunger strike, surpassing the five-day mark, in their resolute demand for a winter capital in Tura.
The ACHIK organisation was accompanied by several influential NGOs from the Garo Hills region. The hunger strike by the organisation has drawn a substantial crowd of supporters, congregating at the location opposite the mini-secretariat in Tura.
Recent reports indicated that Balkarin Ch Marak, the Co-Chairman of the Garoland State Movement Committee, has started to experience physical debility following his five-day hunger strike, advocating for a winter capital in Tura.
According to the information received, a staff nurse from the Dakopgre Sub Centre arrived at the site this evening to assess the condition of Balkarin Ch. Marak, promptly administering an intravenous treatment.
The distressing revelation comes as he endured more than five days without a proper meal, resulting in a profound state of frailty, as conveyed in the report. Marak’s hunger strike has taken a toll on his body, leaving him weak and vulnerable.
Regrettably, no response has been forthcoming from either the state government or the district administration to date, leaving the hunger strike unanswered. The lack of response from the state government and district administration has further deepened the concerns regarding Balkarin Ch. Marak’s hunger strike. The delay in taking action raises questions about the commitment of authorities to addressing the issue and providing necessary support to those in need.
Several women’s groups have united to lend their support to the noble cause championed by the NGOs.
