Manipur Govt announces Rs 10 lakh ex gratia for family of martyred BSF jawan Deepak Chingakham

Imphal, May 13: The Manipur government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the family of BSF Constable Deepak Chingakham, who was martyred in cross-border firing by Pakistani forces along the international boundary in the R.S. Pura sector of Jammu.

Constable (GD) Chingakham, who was serving with the 7th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), sustained critical injuries during the unprovoked firing and succumbed to them on May 11. His sacrifice in the line of duty has drawn widespread mourning and tributes from across the country.

The mortal remains of the braveheart are scheduled to arrive at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal on Tuesday afternoon via an Indigo flight. A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the airport, following which the body will be taken to his native village, Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai in Imphal East district, where the last rites will be performed.

State officials, security personnel, and local residents will be present to pay their respects to the fallen soldier.
