Imphal, Nov 21: Eight companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) arrived in Imphal on Wednesday as violence in the strife-torn state escalated.
According to officials, 11 companies of CAPF had reached the state a day earlier. The latest deployment includes four companies each from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Border Security Force (BSF). Among them, one CRPF company is from the Mahila Battalion. These forces will be stationed in fringe and vulnerable areas across Manipur.
The Central Government had recently announced the deployment of 50 additional CAPF companies to restore order in the state.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Education-Schools, Manipur, has ordered the closure of all private unaided and central schools in the valley districts from November 21 to 23, citing concerns over student safety.
In a significant development, the BJP-led Manipur government plans to urge the Centre to launch operations against all Kuki-Zo militant groups, rather than targeting only those involved in the November 11 abduction and killing of six Meitei relief camp inmates in Jiribam.
