African Swine Fever outbreak under control in Meghalaya with stringent measures

Must read

Shillong, June 8: The state government on Thursday said the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak is under control and all measures have been put in place to contain any further spread.

“Situation is very much under control because the Rapid Action Team and the veterinary doctors have promptly taken all measures to contain the spread,” Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister AL Hek told reporters on Thursday.

“A few places have been affected but at a very small scale. Five pigs died at the Pynursla piggery farm and five others died in Ri-Bhoi. The inspection and rapid action teams rushed to the two spots and contained the spread,” he informed.

He said villages within a one-kilometre radius of the infected premises have been designated as ‘infected zones’ and all villages within a ten-kilometre radius were designated as ‘surveillance zones’.

“The department has not issued any order or direction to stop sale or consumption of pork but people should take all precautionary measures so that swine flu does not spread,” he advised.
