Shillong, Dec 19: Opposition UDP MDC from Nongkrem Constituency, Lambor Malngiang, on Tuesday extended full support to the NPP-led Executive Committee (EC) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) for its good performance.

Malngiang’s support was welcomed by the CEM of KHADC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem.

This came a day after UDP senior leader and nominated MDC has also extended his support to the Syiem-led EC.

Speaking to media persons, Malngiang said his decision to support the EC led by Syiem doesn’t mean that he will join the ruling political party in the KHADC.

He added that his decision to support was solely based on issues taken up by the present EC especially pertaining to the interest of the people and strengthening the district council.

“After taking over as CEM of the district council, Pyniaid Sing Syiem has always been active in taking up issues which are important with regard to the interest of the indigenous community especially when it comes to Clan Bill,” said Malngiang.

“After seeing the work done by the EC, it is my duty to support the EC to make sure that it has enough numbers to continue the work which are of importance to the people and the district council,” he added.

On June 19, this year, the NPP had toppled the three-year-old United Democratic Party (UDP)-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) executive committee (EC) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC). 17 MDCs supported the no-confidence motion moved by the National People’s Party against the style of functioning of the former chief executive member (CEM) Titosstarwell Chyne.
