Agatha concedes defeat, thanks people of Garo Hills

Tura, June 4: Following the unexpected defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate, Agatha K. Sangma, has conceded to the people’s mandate but vows to continue serving the people of Garo Hills and Meghalaya.

Agatha, who won her first Lok Sabha election in 2009, and was re-elected in 2014 and 2019, was defeated by Congress’ Saleng A. Sangma on Tuesday by a significant margin of over 1.5 lakh votes.

Taking to her official social media platform, Agatha said, “It has been an honor to serve the people of Garo Hills as their MP, and I am so grateful for the opportunity that was given to me. Even though I did not win this election, I will continue to serve the people of Garo Hills and Meghalaya in every way that I can.”

She also congratulated the newly elected MP of Tura, Saleng A. Sangma.

Agatha fell short to Saleng by a total of 155,241 votes, securing 228,678 votes in total. Saleng was declared the victor, having secured a total of 383,919 votes.
