Guwahati, July 23: In an effort to establish a united platform of Northeast regional political parties, the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) convened a crucial meeting on Monday with Dr. Ricky Andrew J Syngkon, MP from the Voice of the People Party (CPP), in Guwahati.
The aim of the meeting was to strengthen regional cooperation.
The discussions focused on common issues affecting Assam and Meghalaya, exploring the formation of a regional democratic front for the North Eastern states of India. The meeting, attended by AJP president Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan, and other senior leaders, sought to enhance cooperation on matters such as economic development, cultural exchange, and social welfare.
“We are thrilled to initiate this dialogue with the Voice of the People’s Party from Meghalaya,” Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said after the meeting. “Our shared history, culture, and geography make it imperative for us to work together to address the unique challenges facing our region.”
Dr. Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon, the MP from Shillong, was felicitated by the AJP president and other party leaders. Both parties agreed to continue discussions and explore possibilities for a regional democratic front, aiming to ensure a brighter future for the people of Assam, Meghalaya, and the entire Northeast.
On July 18, the AJP and the Citizen Action Party of Sikkim (CAPS) announced their collaboration to work in unison for the greater interest of the indigenous people in the northeastern states. In a meeting held at a hotel in Guwahati, leaders of both parties decided to create a common platform for regional political parties of the Northeast.
