AKHAF flags low-quality work on Bagli-Maheskhola Road in South West Khasi Hills

Must read

Shillong, April 18: The All Khasi Hills A’chik Federation (AKHAF) on Tuesday carried out an inspection of the construction work of the Border Road in South West Khasi Hills, which is being undertaken by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). The AKHAF found that low-quality work was being carried out in the ongoing project, starting from Bagli to Maheskhola.

The reconstruction and black topping project is an essential transportation and communication route for the people living in the border area, as well as the Border Security Force (BSF) for international safety and security purposes. However, the AKHAF discovered that the contractor, M/s Dilip Paul & Sons, was not committed to the quality standard of the construction.

Clivestar Ch Marak, President of the AKHAF, expressed concern about the poor quality of the road, which has caused significant panic among the people living in the border area and the BSF jawans who rely on the road for their daily needs. As the only route available for communication in the region, the neglectful nature of the work is unfortunate for the rural people, he said.

The AKHAF has warned the contractor that if their demands are not met immediately, they will take strong action against them at a higher authority. They have also demanded that CPWD (Road) Shillong immediately intervene and take appropriate action against the corruption in the ongoing project.

Marak said the AKHAF is determined not to be a silent spectator of the corruption happening in the construction of the Border Road.
