Tura, Feb 26: In a major breakthrough the ruling alliance headed by the NPP in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council have nominated MDC from siju constituency of South Garo Hills, Albinush Marak to be the new Chief Executive Member to head the coalition, replacing current CEM Rakesh A Sangma who has been the target of protest groups for the past three weeks.

Rakesh Sangma has already announced his decision to step down from the CEM post.

Albinush Marak is currently the Deputy Chairman of the GHADC, the second most important position of the judicial wing of the council. He had defeated Trinamool Congress MDC Rinaldo K Sangma of Rongrong (Resubelpara) in the election to the post of Deputy Chairman, last April.

Highly placed sources within the alliance confirmed that a meeting of the MDCs from the ruling side, led by the NPP, took place this evening in Tura where Albinush Marak’s name was unanimously accepted by all 16 members, including nominated MDC Aldo A Sangma.
