Shillong, April 4: Cabinet minister and government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh on Friday said the All Party Committee on Railways will soon invite all stakeholders including members of civil society organizations for their views on the issue.

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “Meetings of the committee to be headed by the chief minister will commence very soon. The whole idea here is to allow for a space and a platform for diverse and sometimes divergence views to be expressed.”

“We would like to onboard all stakeholders, those opposed to railways, those who (are) pro railways and those who are neutral to the idea of railways but we would like to see and view the entire gamut of issues from just a single viewpoint but diverse points of views. So, these points of views have been expressed by elected representatives, dorbar shnongs, NGOs, civil societies. We would like to hear all of those and at the end of that exercise the government would then take the final call,” he added.

The minister informed that according to the indications he have received the first meeting of the committee would be held before the end of April.

He further clarified that it is a misconception to say that the all party committee would only deal with political parties.

“It is not dealing with only political parties. We would invite all stakeholders, members of civil societies, members of organizations and more importantly also solicit the views of elected members of both Assembly and ADCs,” Lyngdoh said.

He however said at this stage, the government would not hold any discussion with other agencies.

“We will first seek the views within the state of Meghalaya. The process will continue where we will reach out to other agencies in due course of time,” he concluded.
