“The Union Home Minister has assured the delegation that all issues concerning the 10 ADCs in regards to the amendment of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution will be addressed by a committee to be headed by the Home Minister of State (MoS) within a period of one month,” Syiem said.

He said that the 10 ADCs have different problems and different demands and the same was discussed on Thursday during a half hour long meeting with Shah.

He informed that all the ten ADCs would again meet in Shillong on August 10, to further discuss the need to strengthen the ADCs in the NE region.

Chairman of The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (also known as TIPRA Motha) Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma said, “We are happy that the Home Minister has assured that in the next one month they will be addressing all our issues which means August 25, and he has assured that if the agreement was signed when another government was in place, any commitment given by the government of India on any accord or any agreement will be honoured because that, the agreement by BJP or Congress, is by the government of India.”

“We are also very happy that a positive attitude was taken by the Home Minister and we are hopeful because the councils may be different… but all our problems will be individually heard by a committee and they will be addressed so that there is a solution, which is amicable. The most important thing is we don’t want to go into confrontation, we want to give rights to our people, our community and if this is how we progress, we welcome it in a positive manner,” he added.
