Shillong, Feb 16: East Shillong Legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh has lauded Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for taking initiative in the peace talks with the banned militant outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).
Speaking to reporters in the city, Lyngdoh said that the peace talk between the outfit and the government is a long dream of the people of the Khasi-Jaiñtia hills.
“We have seen that there have been banned outfits across the state, there has been a wrestle over their issues in other parts of the state, and part of the state longs to see that these peace talks will result well, will give us peace, will give us no tension, and we will see our people come and live a respectable, responsible life,” she said.
Lauding the Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, she said, “It is very heartbreaking to see that these peace-talks were left pending for many years… now we are very happy that the Chief Minister is taking the initiative.”
Lyngdoh further added that she, along with the other four suspended CLP members of Congress, are not only giving the support but are ready to lend ideas to ensure that this peace talk materializes productively.
Mentionably, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday met the Home Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) at New Delhi to apprise the Centre and discuss on the ‘unconditional’ peace talks offered by the HNLC. Informing about the meeting through a video message, Sangma said the meeting was very positive and the steps to take the peace talks forward were discussed in detail. He said more development will take place regarding this in the coming days.
