Shillong, Oct 28: In massive crackdown on criminal elements looking to make easy money from traders and businesses by using threats and intimidation, the Special Cell of East Khasi Hills (EKH) on Friday afternoon busted another extortion racket operating in Shillong city. They apprehended four extortionists, including a woman, from Palace Hotel in Ïewduh.
The suspects were found in possession of several counterfoils and a book of ‘Ki Khlur u Hynniewtrep’.
The police took sprung into action after an FIR was filed detailing an incident on the evening of Thursday (October 26, 2023) in which the extortionists demanded an amount of Rs. 15,000 from an individual to be paid by Friday. Police laid a trap and when the extortionists came to collect the ransom, they were arrested.
A case has been registered under Lumdiengjri PS C/no. 146(10)23, invoking sections 384/506/34 of the Indian Penal Code relating to the case.
