Apollo Trinity brings Senior Gastroenterologist from Chennai to Shillong for specialised care

Must read

Shillong, March 7: The residents of Shillong will now have access to better medical care without traveling far, as Dr. Sundeepta Kr Swain, Senior Consultant and Surgical Gastroenterologist at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, will be making regular visits to the city to meet with patients.

Dr. Sundeepta Kr Swain, will be making regular visits to the city every two months.

Dr. Swain, who is also the Head of the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at Apollo Main Hospital, Chennai, specialises in minimally invasive surgeries, including complex cancer surgeries of the intestinal tract, liver and pancreas. Apollo Main Hospital has been India’s top gastroenterology center for several years, equipped with cutting-edge technology such as multiple robotic systems, a top-tier critical care unit, and Asia’s first proton therapy center for cancer treatment.

Speaking about his initiative in Shillong, Dr. Swain highlighted that many patients from the region seek treatment in Chennai but struggle with frequent follow-ups due to distance, costs and logistical challenges. To address this, he will now be consulting patients at Apollo Trinity Medical Center, Shillong, ensuring continuity of care closer to home.

“This initiative will help patients receive expert advice, follow-ups and preliminary diagnostics right here in Shillong,” Dr. Swain explained. “For cases requiring advanced procedures, the Apollo Trinity Medical Center will facilitate smooth coordination with Apollo Chennai, assisting patients with appointments, travel arrangements, and early consultations with senior specialists.”

The center will also offer teleconsultation services, ensuring that patients have access to expert guidance even in between Dr. Swain’s visits. Additionally, patients who are uncertain about their diagnosis or have struggled to get clear answers from multiple doctors can now receive structured assessments and treatment plans based on Dr. Swain’s 25 years of experience.

While Apollo Chennai is known for its premium medical services, Dr. Swain assured that treatment costs remain competitive with other corporate hospitals. The team also provides cost-cutting options, concessions, and discounts wherever possible to make treatments more accessible.

“I strongly believe in seeing patients at their own place for follow-ups and even initial diagnoses. This will make specialized healthcare more accessible and reduce unnecessary travel for Shillong residents,” he emphasised.

With this collaboration, Shillong now has direct access to some of the country’s best gastroenterology services, bridging the gap between local healthcare and world-class medical expertise.

The Apollo Trinity Medical Center is equipped with advanced diagnostic services, including ECG, TMT, echocardiography, pulmonary function tests (PFT), ultrasound, X-ray, dental care, ophthalmology, physiotherapy, and an integrated lab linked with Apollo Diagnostics.

The radiology department is connected to Apollo TeleRadiology International, ensuring expert consultations and reports.

In the second phase of expansion, the center plans to introduce dialysis, endoscopy, CT scans, and MRI services. A dedicated patient app will be launched for appointment bookings, home sample collections, and access to digital medical records, reducing waiting times and improving efficiency.

The center also aims to offer telemedicine consultations with top Apollo specialists from Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati, further expanding access to expert medical advice.
