Must read

Itanagar, March 27: Two militants of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Khaplang (NSCN-K) have escaped from the Khonsa prison in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap District, leaving a police constable dead and another injured.

The two militants, identified as Rocksen Homchha and Tipu Kitnya, reportedly got into a violent altercation with two police constables who were guarding the jail premises. The militants snatched the service weapons of the guards and overpowered them to make their escape.

The police constable who died has been identified as Wangnyien Bosai, who succumbed to his injuries on the way to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh. The other injured constable is said to be in critical condition.

This is not the first jailbreak to occur in Arunachal Pradesh, with militants having escaped from prison in a similar manner in the past. The Tirap police have launched a massive manhunt for the escaped militants, with the assistance of the Assam Rifles and CRPF.

“We have launched a massive manhunt to nab the militants who fled from jail. Search operation in villages has been going on,” said a police official.
