Itanagar, Feb 3: Following the tragic tiger attack that claimed the life of Arunachal Pradesh Police Head Constable Chikseng Manpung, authorities have intensified surveillance and imposed precautionary restrictions in and around Mayudia in Lower Dibang Valley district.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Lower Dibang Valley has issued a public advisory urging residents and tourists to avoid venturing out during evening and night hours, particularly along the Mayudia–Roing stretch. Movement of two-wheelers has been temporarily restricted, and security personnel have been deployed at vulnerable points to monitor vehicular movement.
Officials said forest and police teams have launched combing operations in the area to track the movement of the tigress and her three sub-adult cubs, which were reportedly sighted close to the roadside over the past few days. Camera traps are being installed, and drone surveillance is also being considered to assess the animals’ movement pattern.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Mito Rumi stated that tranquilisation and relocation of the big cats will be carried out only after a thorough assessment by wildlife experts to avoid further risk to both humans and animals.
“Our priority is to ensure public safety while following established wildlife protocols,” he said.
Wildlife officials believe the tigress may have been moving with her cubs in search of prey, which could explain her proximity to the road. Experts have cautioned that tigresses with cubs tend to be more defensive and may attack if they perceive a threat.
Meanwhile, local residents have expressed concern over safety, particularly as Mayudia remains a key tourist destination during the winter months.
Authorities have appealed for calm and requested people not to spread rumours or attempt to track the animal on their own.
The incident has also prompted discussions on strengthening early warning systems and wildlife monitoring in high-altitude areas like Mayudia, where increasing human movement intersects with wildlife habitats.
