Tura, May 3: The A·chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) convened its ninth Winter Capital Awareness Campaign Meeting on Saturday at the Balachanda village playground in West Garo Hills.
The meeting was attended by the Nokmas of Balachanda a·king land, Chandalkona a·king land, and the Nokma of Rajabala, along with the President of the A·chik Progressive Approach (APA) – Rajabala Unit. These individuals voiced their concerns regarding the establishment of the Winter Capital in Tura.

The ASPF is actively leading the movement to designate Tura as the Winter Capital. To facilitate this objective, they have conducted a series of awareness campaign meetings throughout the Garo Hills region to urge the government to fulfil the long-standing demand of having a Winter Capital in Tura. The public response has been overwhelmingly supportive, providing valuable feedback and cooperation at each meeting.
“On behalf of the people of the Garo Hills region, we respectfully request that the Chief Minister of Meghalaya to convene a meeting with the Winter Capital Committee and all relevant stakeholders, including Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) such as ASPF and GSMC at earliest,” appealed Bernita Marak, Secretary of ASPF, in a press statement.
The next meeting is scheduled for May 10, 2025 at the Raksamgre Public Playground in Raksamgre Sub-Division, West Garo Hills.
