Tura, May 3: The curtains came down on Synergy 2025 in Tura on Saturday with a powerful message – education must go beyond grades, it must shape character, leadership, and a sense of purpose.
The week-long initiative, designed to build self-confidence, foster collaboration, and promote personal growth among students, concluded with a valedictory function at the Don Bosco College in Tura that brought together education leaders, mentors, and hundreds of college students from across the region.
Speaking at the valedictory ceremony, Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma urged students to embrace a curriculum that’s not only rooted in academics but enriched by local culture and global relevance. He highlighted that education should not only focus on academic knowledge but also foster global awareness and the ability to address societal challenges. The Minister also encouraged the students to pursue their dreams, build a strong foundation for their future, and strive for excellence in all areas.
He urged students to stay motivated and continue contributing to the development of their communities and the nation.
The event was hosted by Jordana Dipera, Assistant Professor at Don Bosco College, Tura, with vibrant cultural presentations by Group 7, who performed the traditional song “Dim Dim, Dim Chong, Dachi Chong,” and Group 6’s “Gogai Wai, Gosai Wai.”
Advisor to the Education Department, Himalaya M. Shangpliang, shared his journey from modest beginnings to leadership roles in public service. He encouraged students to remain focused, dream big, and resist distractions. Highlighting the importance of education, leadership, and ambition, he called upon the youth of the state to shape Meghalaya future with vision and unity.
Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Januarius Sangma, Principal of Don Bosco College, emphasised on education as a means of enlightenment and community service. “Education is not just for jobs or money, but a path to enlightenment, character-building, and leadership,” he said. He encouraged the students to recognize their value as human resources, work collectively, and use their education to contribute positively to society.
In her welcome address, Dr. Barbara S. Sangma, IQAC Coordinator, highlighted how Synergy 2025 gave students a platform to learn, lead, and grow through both academic and experiential activities. The program included workshops on personal effectiveness, communication, and navigating life’s challenges, complemented by debates, quizzes, role plays, and vibrant cultural performances.
Certificates were distributed to participants from six colleges, recognizing their active engagement and contribution. Dr. Mueller Buel M. Sangma, Assistant Professor at Don Bosco College, presented the action plan of Synergy 2025, which includes expanding the program’s reach, involving more institutions, and integrating collaborative efforts like NSS initiatives.
As the first edition of Synergy concludes, organizers are already looking forward to expanding the program, with plans to involve more colleges and include a broader range of activities to foster continued collaboration and growth among students in the region in future.
