Guwahati, Nov 28: A team of Special Task Force, Assam police on Tuesday launched an operation at Gauripur in Kamrup district and seized 1.8 kg of heroin worth Rs 15 crore and arrested two persons.
A Tata vehicle bearing registration no (AS 25 EC 4464) was also seized in the operation.
The two peddlers have been identified as Sonu Ali of Garigaon and Arjun Basfore of Jalukbari.
“The vehicle was intercepted at Saraighat. But after getting information of police waiting at the checkpoint, the drug peddlers fled towards Changsari with the vehicle. The STF team fired two rounds following which the vehicle was stopped. The vehicle was then searched and, as indicated by the peddlers, a hidden chamber of the vehicle was cut open which disclosed the presence of 1.8 kgs of heroin. The entire contraband items were seized,” said Partha Mahanta, DIG, special task force, Assam police.
He said, “We will carry out our operation against drugs. Recently, we have seized many contraband drugs during the crackdown.”
