Guwahati, Sept 22: In a joint operation, in different parts of the state, security forces have apprehended 15 persons including three women on Saturday night for planting suspected IED like materials during Independence Day celebrations this year.
The operation was conducted by Assam police with technical support of National Investigation Agency(NIA).
The raids came after prolonged intelligence gathering by Assam Police HQ in coordination with NIA based on specific inputs received from various sources during the course of investigation of attempted sabotage activity.
“Incriminating facts have been untethered after preliminary interrogation of the apprehended persons and more information about the conspiracy are expected to be known after prolong interrogation, in due course of time,” said a police official.
They are being arrested for further interrogation and unearthing the larger conspiracy.
On August 15, 2024, the Assam Police carried out searches for explosive devices in several places across the state on Independence Day after “suspicious articles” were found in a few cities and towns, including Guwahati.
ULFA-I have planned IED like substances in many areas of the state and through an email to media houses, the banned outfit claimed that they have planned IED in many areas.
