Tinsukia, June 13: Security forces in Tinsukia, Assam, arrested two linkmen of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) and recovered ₹12 lakh in cash from their possession. The arrests were part of a crackdown on insurgent activities in the region.
After receiving a tip-off regarding the presence of NSCN overground workers (OGWs), the security forces launched a joint operation at Tikok village in Tinsukia.
During the intense search operation, the team apprehended an active OGW of NSCN(K) and recovered ₹12 lakh in cash, along with other incriminating documents, from a nearby house.
According to police sources, the suspects were engaged in extortion activities in Arunachal Pradesh. After collecting the extortion money, they were planning to move to other locations, but the vigilance of security forces led to their arrest.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched counter-insurgency operations along the Assam-Arunachal border. This region shares an international border with Myanmar, through which insurgents from neighbouring camps often infiltrate Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to carry out their activities.
