Dibrugarh, Sept 4: After Bishal Phukan, another online fraudster identified as Ranjit Kakoti has been arrested by Dibrugarh police for allegedly duping hundreds of people in the name of Trading FX.
“We have picked up one Ranjit Kakoti after we received complaint against him. He was arrested and we have started interrogating him in connection with Trading FX online fraud,” said a senior police official.
Related to his arrest is a post by local singer Bituraj Chetia, who called out Ranjit Kakoti as a fraudster on his Facebook post. In the Facebook post, Singer Bituraj Chetia, claimed: “MR RANJIT KAKOTY resident of Jibon Phukan Nagar Dibrugarh Assam, is totally a fraud personality who has introduced Trading FX in entire Assam. He has looted many people from all community by giving wrong and deadful hopes by collecting crores of money from the entire lot who has invested in this company. He is a sort of a monster who has not even spared below poverty people who hardly live a luxurious life by giving them wrong hopes and dreams. He has build his crore rupees two houses by destroying and looting innocent people’s money. He should be highly punished and all the money should be returned back to the people. He is a leach to the society who dosent deserve to stay in a peacefull manner. He is a curse to the society. This is a request to the ###Assam police## that immediate action should be taken against this culprit as soon as possible and the innocent people should get justice. Every single person should get their money back. We trust our law and order.”
According to sources, Trading FX targeted many people in Dibrugarh and people have invested lakhs of rupees in the name of tripling their investments in 6 months.
Meanwhile, Bishal Phukan is in the custody of Dibrugarh police and police have been interrogating him for several hours.
Assamese cinema actress Sumi Borah who has been allegedly linked with the Bishal Phukan online investment scam has been absconding after Bishal Phukan’s arrest. Her phone is also switched off.
Police have summoned Sumi Borah’s elder brother in Dibrugarh police station for questioning.
Phukan was apprehended at his residence in Prabhanjali Apartment, Dibrugarh, after which a police raid was carried out. During the operation, the police seized foreign currency (Dirham), iPhones, and other documents.
Bishal Phukan was picked up alongside another individual titled Hazarika. Police has summoned the security guard of the apartment and the driver of Phukan for interrogation.
As per police sources, operation has been launched in various places of Assam in connection with the case as police suspect involvement of others.
Dibrugarh Police has registered a case bearing no. 352/24 under various sections including the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Scheme Act, 2019.
Sources said that Sumi Borah’s husband has invested in tea sector in upper Assam.
