Guwahati, April 24: AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on Thursday for allegedly making controversial remarks about the recent Pahalgam incident, in which 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack. Islam, who represents Assam’s Dhing constituency, was booked under sections 152/196/197(i)/113(i)/352/353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Assam Police detained Islam following his comments during a Panchayat election campaign in Dhing, where he referenced the 2019 Pulwama attack.
“During the 2019 Pulwama blast, where 40 CRPF jawans were killed by 300 kg of RDX, I had stated that it was a conspiracy by the government to gain electoral advantage. I demanded an impartial inquiry, but no investigation has taken place in six years. The public still doesn’t know how a car with 300 kg of RDX entered a high-security zone and targeted the CRPF convoy,” Islam said during his campaign speech on Wednesday.

Commenting on the recent Pahalgam incident, Islam claimed, “The BJP is saying that the terrorists identified victims by religion before attacking. But survivors have given a different version—that the terrorists opened fire indiscriminately. We suspect that the same forces behind the Pulwama attack are responsible for Pahalgam as well.”
He further alleged, “If the Modi government does not initiate an investigation and instead uses this for Hindu-Muslim politics, we will believe this was a conspiracy orchestrated by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. We again demand an independent inquiry.”

Islam also cited former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, saying, “Even he criticized the central government and claimed that the 300 kg of RDX was brought in with the knowledge of Modi and Shah. We believe the government is sponsoring violence in Jammu and Kashmir.”
In response, AIUDF chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal distanced the party from Islam’s remarks. “This is an unfortunate statement. It does not reflect the views of our party. We stand united with the government in such situations. Terrorists have no religion, and such acts defame both Islam and Muslims. Islam’s statement is his personal opinion and not that of the AIUDF,” Ajmal clarified.
